My Week in Art #13 – Art Supplies Haul: Paint Brushes, Paint, Sketchbooks, Perfect Bullet Journals
Firstly, apologies for the lateness of this blog post slash art supplies haul. I really try to do the “My Week in Art” every Monday but this week, life has got in the way, a sick Nan, freelance and part-time jobs have taken a front seat. I also need to start work on another baby scan artwork, this time for a beautiful girl so need to play with colour schemes for that too.
At the weekend, I bought the last of the pieces I needed to complete my bi-yearly art supplies haul. All I needed to get from “real shops” were oil paints which I couldn’t find online in the quantity I needed and printing paper, again the same problem. Basically, it was simple to go into town and pop into Cass Arts and Clarkes art shop. I’d made a few online orders as well for things like bulk acrylic paint and things from Wilko as there isn’t a shop near me (sob!).
Paints wise, I went for this bulk order of acrylic paint in a whopping 2.25 litre bottle and two smaller nude colours which are perfect for mixing and “neutralising” my other bright oil paints. These were from this random website here, which actually delivered the next day so I was very pleased indeed! I also got from Clarke’s art shop, a special offer set of two white oil paints and a random tiny white which was sitting about on sale and too cute to pass up. These will last me so long and be used every time I create artwork without fail.
This wad of brushes is not even all of it, the mixed blue and ochre coloured sets I got two packs of. Basically, I’d really wrecked all of my brushes over a two year period and vastly needed new ones. The packs were cheapo ones from Wilko, cheap, cheerful and do the job. The “classy” Reeves ones were more of a treat although cheaper, again, from Wilko as I want some I’ll look after slightly more and want to keep. The sponges on sticks are sort of useless to me in an art sense but I use them for clearing paint smudges off the floor and (sometimes) the walls (eeeeeekkkkkk!). It’s also worth mentioning, Wilko does these rubber, non-fibre, detailers which I’ve used a little bit but might be right up someone’s street as I’ve seen them elsewhere for loads more.
As for the other bits I got, there was another pad of heavy weight print paper from Cass arts which always seems so expensive at the time but they are my canvasses for the most part. I also got a few bullet journal style books for organising and bulleting my life shortly! Lastly, I loved the size and feel of the Seawhite Artist’s Note Book / Travel Journal so got that too. I officially do not need art bits for a while!
I would love to know if you’ve found anywhere that sells cheap art supplies or could recommend any cheap products. Please leave a comment below or follow me on social media 🙂
